REINHARD BONNKE SHOCKING STORY BEFORE DEATH
Few evangelists in modern history have left a legacy as remarkable as Reinhard Bonnke. Known for his passionate preaching, unwavering faith, and massive gospel crusades across Africa, Bonnke inspired millions with his message that God could do the impossible. One of his most powerful testimonies, shared before his death in 2019, revealed the extraordinary journey that transformed him from a discouraged missionary into one of the most influential evangelists of the twentieth century.
Bonnke recalled a period in his life when he felt deeply frustrated with his ministry. Despite his dedication and hard work, he saw little impact in the small town where he was serving. He described crying out to God, saying, “This can’t be it.” He felt exhausted, disappointed, and convinced that somewhere along the way, something was missing. According to Bonnke, a turning point came one morning while reading the Bible. The message struck him with tremendous force. He realized that he had been focused on small achievements while God had called him to accomplish something far greater.
Using a vivid illustration, Bonnke said he felt like he had been “playing with marbles” while God wanted him to move mountains. That revelation ignited a new passion within him. He began seeking God’s greater purpose and asking how an entire continent could hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was during this season of prayer and spiritual hunger that he discovered what he called the difference between God’s minimum and God’s maximum.
Shortly afterward, while serving in the small African nation of Lesotho, Bonnke experienced a life-changing vision. In a dream that he described as more than a dream, he saw the entire continent of Africa covered and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ. As he watched, he heard a powerful voice declare, “Africa shall be saved.”
The vision shocked him because it seemed completely impossible. At the time, his ministry was small and had little influence beyond his local community. Yet the same dream returned night after night. Each time, he saw Africa and heard the same words: “Africa shall be saved.” Eventually, the message became deeply rooted in his spirit. Though some fellow missionaries thought he was unrealistic, Bonnke embraced the vision wholeheartedly.
Determined to obey what he believed God had spoken, Bonnke moved his family from Lesotho to South Africa. He admitted that he had no clear strategy and did not know how the vision would come to pass. Nevertheless, he trusted God and took the first step.
One of his earliest acts of faith was renting a large stadium for a gospel meeting. The decision seemed unreasonable because he had no guarantee that people would attend. When the first service began, only about one hundred people were present. Bonnke felt disappointed, but he continued preaching. According to his testimony, miracles occurred during that meeting, including reports of healings and transformed lives. News spread rapidly, and attendance grew dramatically. Within days, the stadium was filled with thousands of people eager to hear the Gospel.
For Bonnke, this was the beginning of a new era. He witnessed large crowds responding to the message of Christ and saw what he described as powerful movements of the Holy Spirit. These experiences convinced him that God was able to accomplish far more than he had ever imagined.
As the ministry expanded, Bonnke felt led to build a giant tent capable of seating more than 30,000 people. Despite technical and financial challenges, the project was completed. The tent became a symbol of the ministry’s growing influence. Yet even that enormous structure soon proved too small as crowds continued to increase. Bonnke realized that if the vision of reaching Africa was to be fulfilled, no building would ever be large enough.
The breakthrough continued throughout the continent. Bonnke often spoke about a significant campaign in Malawi in 1986. There, attendance reached unprecedented levels, with hundreds of thousands gathering to hear the Gospel. He described the nation becoming spiritually energized as people traveled from great distances to attend the meetings.
His influence eventually reached political leaders as well. During a visit to Malawi, Bonnke met with the country’s president and was unexpectedly invited to address Parliament. Unsure of what to say, he prayed for guidance and felt compelled to preach about the blood of Jesus Christ. To his surprise, many members of Parliament responded positively to his message. Bonnke later described the event as a powerful demonstration of God’s ability to reach people in every sphere of society.
Throughout his ministry, Bonnke remained convinced that God’s desire was to save multitudes. He frequently challenged the belief that Christianity was destined to remain a small movement. Instead, he pointed to biblical visions of countless people from every nation worshiping before God’s throne. His passion was not merely to reach individuals but entire communities, nations, and generations.
In the final years of his life, Bonnke continued to dream of global evangelism. He spoke about new strategies to spread the Gospel worldwide and maintained his belief that nothing was impossible for God. One of his boldest declarations was that he believed a day would come when one million people could respond to the Gospel in a single meeting.
Whether viewed as a spiritual visionary, a gifted communicator, or a fearless man of faith, Reinhard Bonnke’s story remains one of extraordinary determination. His testimony before his death reveals a man who refused to settle for limitations. Instead, he chose to pursue a vision that seemed impossible, inspiring millions around the world to believe that great faith can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
