Franklin’s innovative sound attracted younger listeners while also drawing criticism from traditional church circles that viewed his style as too contemporary.

Yet even as his professional career soared, Franklin faced personal battles. He openly discussed his long struggle with pornography addiction, which began during childhood after exposure to explicit material at a very young age. Believing marriage would solve his problems, he married Tammy Collins in 1996. However, he later admitted that marriage alone could not heal the emotional wounds and unhealthy habits that had developed over many years. Through faith, counseling, and mentorship, he gradually began addressing those issues.

That same year, Franklin nearly lost his life. During a concert in Memphis, he fell from the stage into an orchestra pit, suffering a severe head injury and spending time in critical condition.
