PART 2:

Simon’s silence changed everything.

Evelyn threw her treacherous husband and his lover out of the Atherton mansion. She thought the darkest part of the night was over. Later, Simon tells her that the truth is deeper than their feelings.

Three weeks ago, Owen’s team found communications between Adrian and Julian Mercer. Julian is more than just a person. He is Vice President of Strategy at Nexigen Systems, Aureon’s biggest competitor.

There have been twelve meetings in twenty days. Hotels, restaurants, private clubs and enough evidence to make this model impossible to ignore. Owen had six meetings and four phone calls.

Evelyn sat in silence as Simon explained the sequel. Nexigen has filed three patent license applications. Adrian listens to the news, provides strategic guidance, prioritizes threat issues, and plans the market.

Evelyn suddenly understood the horror of what she had done. She didn’t talk to her husband. She had prepared information for a leak.

Simon said that this could be related to federal trade security breaches. Owen needed his office, personal computer, physical documents, and anything he could have kept going.

Evelyn did not collapse. She asked for the next steps.

Three weeks ago, Owen’s team entered through a side window with gloves, a case and a camera. They move quietly around the house while Evelyn sits in the kitchen answering emails about the London acquisition.

At 12:47 a.m., Owen appeared at the window.

“You need to see this.”

In Adrian’s classroom, the truth was waiting on the table. Summary of printed information. Annotations: JM. Total: just over six thousand thousand dollars.

Later, Maya found the prepaid phone.
The messages went back twenty months ago. Adrian described the predictive threat model parameters. He confirmed the deployment times that Evelyn mentioned at their kitchen table.

Then Evelyn sees the sentence that completely freezes her.

“She trusted me with the strategy class. “There is not enough technical to prosecute if this remains clean.”

For a moment, Evelyn couldn’t hear anything.

She then put the phone back on the table and gave the command. Record everything.

In the morning, the meeting room at Aureon Shield was full. Evelyn stood at the head of the table and told them that there were two problems.

A personal matter.

A crime.

And both exist because she trusted the wrong person with closeness.
