Snoop Dogg Remembers Meeting Paul McCartney—And Keeping His Blunt Lit
Snoop Dogg recently recalled a surreal moment meeting Sir Paul McCartney for the first time—one that proved legends recognize legends.
During a sit-down with Complex alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop, 52, shared the story of how he instinctively went to put out his blunt before meeting the Beatles icon. “I’ve never met him before, but I’m a f—kin’ fan of the Beatles,” Snoop said. “I’m in the back smoking and they’re like, ‘Sir Paul would like to meet you.’ So I’m like, ‘Oh, for real? Hold on.’”
But to his surprise, McCartney, 82, didn’t mind the smoke at all. “I got a hug from him, and he told me not to put the blunt out,” Snoop revealed, still in awe of the encounter. “It’s like, ‘F—k. Paul McCartney knows who the f—k Snoop Dogg is.’”
For Snoop, the moment wasn’t just about meeting a music icon—it was about mutual respect. “That’s the experience that I love—when the people you respect, respect you,” he said. “And that’s only from doing quality s—t.”
The meeting reportedly happened at a Hollywood event, possibly the Jimmy Buffett: Keep the Party Going tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2024.
Photos of the legendary encounter have since resurfaced, showing Snoop towering over McCartney with a huge grin, throwing up the shaka symbol. In another, the rapper is seen wrapping McCartney in a heartfelt embrace.
When asked if he’d collaborate with the music legend, Snoop didn’t hesitate: “F—k yes, in a heartbeat.”
He even joked about reimagining McCartney’s classic Ebony & Ivory with Stevie Wonder or covering The Girl Is Mine, McCartney’s 1982 duet with Michael Jackson. “What do you wanna do?” Snoop quipped. “Like a motherf—ker.”
During the conversation, Snoop and Dre also reflected on crossing paths with another musical great, Stevie Wonder.
“He’s one of my heroes. I would absolutely go in there with him,” Dre, 59, said. “I don’t know what I would do. What do I do in a room with Stevie Wonder? That’s one of my heroes. I was always taught, maybe you shouldn’t meet your heroes—it might change your perspective.”
Dre then shared how he once turned down the opportunity to work with Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Prince.
“They just asked me to work with them, and I just was like, ‘What the f—k am I going to do with them?’” Dre admitted during a 2023 episode of Hart to Heart with Kevin Hart. “Those are my f—king heroes.”
It’s safe to say that when it comes to music legends, respect runs both ways—and sometimes, a blunt doesn’t even need to be put out.
