That’s what Juan Soto injected into Yankee Stadium in the seventh inning when he turned on a 1-0 fastball offering from Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Devenski and blasted the ball 409 feet into the right-field seats, sending Yankees fans into a frenzy in the process.
But the best reactions came from Soto’s Yankees teammates, especially Aaron Judge, who had a front-row seat to the dinger while standing in the on-deck circle. Judge’s face lit up as soon as he saw Soto put bat to ball, and the Yankees captain shouted some choice words in elation at Soto, who responded with an energized reaction of his own.
But Judge’s reaction might not have even been the best from Soto’s fellow Yankees teammates.
Yankees catcher Austin Wells, like Judge, immediately knew where the ball was headed off Soto’s bat.
Finally, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole and rotation-mate Marcus Stroman had a blast watching Soto’s home run sail into the Bronx night.
But as good as Soto has been with the bat and glove, his impact clearly goes beyond his stellar production. The Yankees (14-6) feed off of Soto’s electricity.
And there has been plenty of that sizzling through the Bronx so far in 2024.
