BRADENTON, Fla. — Domingo German woke up depressed and frustrated. He was in an unfamiliar bed in a monitored room in a Florida city that wasn’t home or vacation. This was only Day 2 of 30. Four more weeks to go.

German didn’t believe that he belonged in this Jupiter alcohol treatment center. According to him, he’s never had a drinking problem, and on this day, Aug. 3, his 31st birthday, German was feeling like the Yankees’ prisoner. The team had told him that voluntary rehab was the only way he would save the remainder of his 2023 contract.
