The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays met up for the second game of their three-game series over the weekend. After the Yanks won the first game by a score of 5-3, Tampa Bay was determined to even the series.
Yankees Slugger Aaron Judge & Pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr.
They did so by shutting out the Bronx Bombers, beating them 2-0 in extra innings. The win improves Tampa Bay’s record to 12-10 while the loss drops the Yanks to 14-7.
The Rays outhit the Yanks 9-4 on Saturday. Aaron Judge, Anthony Volpe, Trent Grisham, Oswaldo Cabrera, Jahmai Jones, and Austin Wells all went hitless during the afternoon.
Shutouts are not something the Yanks have seen much this season. This is just the second time they have been blanked this year, as the first shutout came by way of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“Wasted an excellent outing from Nestor” – one fan posted.
“Why every time a pitcher has a great performance y’all can’t score?” – posted another fan.
“Someone help Judge please” – posted another.
The fanbase is growing tired of seeing the offense fail to score runs when they have a pitcher who is dealing. This is a problem that the club experienced last season.
“Figure it out” – said another fan.
“Score runs tomorrow thanks” – said another fan.
“Judge 0-4 w/ 4 K’s.. What’s wrong… Something not right with this guy!” – said another.
Yankees fans are starting to worry about Judge. He is currently hitting just .179 following Saturday’s loss and is struggling.
Is there cause for concern following the Yankees’ lackluster performance on Saturday?

Following Saturday’s loss, the Yankees are still in control in the American League East. They hold a one-game lead over the exciting Baltimore Orioles and only hold a three-game lead over the last-place Boston Red Sox.
After starting the season hot, the club has cooled off a bit. They currently sit in 13th place regarding runs per game. The shutout on Saturday is certainly not going to do them any favors.
On the pitching side, the Yanks have been stellar. They have a team ERA of 3.11, ranking them sixth in the league. The club could see a decrease in that number when Gerrit Cole makes his season debut.
Cole was spotted playing catch earlier in the week which is a great sign. He has his eye on returning to the mound at the end of May if everything goes right.
