My husband had my uterus removed while I was unconscious—then brought his pregnant mistress into my hospital room to admire what was left of me.

PART 2:

Courtney walked into my hospital room carrying a fruit basket and wearing the smile of a woman visiting someone she had already defeated. Her coat hung open, making sure I could see the small curve of her pregnancy. Jared stood near the window and never once asked her to leave.

He came to my bedside and held my hand beneath the blanket, but his fingers trembled with the effort of not reaching for her. I asked Courtney how far along she was, and she answered, “Fourteen weeks and three days.” Jared watched me carefully, waiting for grief, rage, or any reaction he could use against me.

Then he announced that Courtney would be moving into our home to help with my recovery. She would stay in the east bedroom, directly beside the nursery prepared for the baby I had just lost. I smiled and agreed, and the relief on Jared’s face told me he believed I was too broken to fight back.

That evening, I locked myself in the hospital bathroom and called my attorney, Evelyn Shaw. I told her Jared had ordered an unnecessary hysterectomy, fabricated a cancer diagnosis, and drugged me before the surgery. Evelyn warned me not to confront him, sign anything, or consume anything he personally gave me.

Before I left the hospital, Nurse Dana slipped a flash drive beneath my pillow. She whispered that the operating room automatically recorded audio and that Dr. Mercer had ordered the file erased. “I made a copy,” she said, just seconds before Jared entered the room.

When I returned home, Courtney’s car was already parked outside, and her belongings had been placed in the east bedroom. Jared behaved like a devoted husband while quietly building a new family inside my house. That night, while they ate downstairs, I opened the hidden recording on an old laptop.

Dr. Mercer’s voice came first, confirming that my uterus was healthy and that there was no evidence of cancer. Jared ordered him to proceed anyway, saying the operation’s purpose was to end my ability to carry a child. Then Courtney asked a question that changed everything: “Will removing it affect the embryo claim?”

The recording revealed that Courtney was not carrying Jared’s child. She was carrying an embryo created from one of my eggs, transferred into her body without my knowledge or consent. Jared had lied when he told me all three of our frozen embryos had failed.

Dr. Mercer warned that the child was genetically mine and that the fertility consent only authorized implantation into my own body. Jared replied that once my uterus was gone, no court would see any practical reason to remove the pregnancy from Courtney. He planned to keep the baby, control the Harlan legacy, and make sure I discovered the truth too late.

But the recording held one more secret. Genetic testing proved the sperm used to create the embryo did not belong to Jared. When the doctor demanded to know whose genetic material had been substituted, Jared answered, “My brother’s.”

I froze because Jared had never mentioned having a brother. Courtney began crying on the recording, realizing Jared had lied to her too. He coldly reminded her that she had been paid to carry the child and ordered the doctor to destroy every original record.

The file ended with Jared saying, “Remove the uterus, erase the evidence, and make sure Shelby never learns that Courtney is carrying her child.” At that moment, the baby I thought had been lost forever was suddenly alive inside the woman sleeping down the hall. And Jared had no idea I now knew the truth.

Then a floorboard creaked behind me.

I closed the laptop just as Jared appeared in the doorway. He stared at the screen and asked, “How long have you been hiding things from me?” Before I could answer, Courtney screamed from downstairs, and when we found her, blood was spreading across her white nightgown.

As the ambulance approached, Courtney grabbed my hand and whispered, “I didn’t know.” Jared leaned closer and demanded to know what she had said, but Courtney looked directly at me and answered, “Nothing.” That was when I understood she was no longer certain whose side she was on.
