THE FIRST DOCUMENT DESTROYED HIS ALIBI
Ricardo followed Valeria into her new office and slammed the door behind him.
“You set me up.”
Valeria calmly placed the burgundy folder on her desk.
“No, Ricardo. You set yourself up. I only kept the receipts.”
His anger disappeared when she slid the first invoice toward him. It showed a payment of $86,000 to a rehabilitation clinic that had never treated Lucía. The approval signature belonged to Ricardo.
“That’s a mistake,” he whispered.
Valeria added three bank transfers, two forged vendor contracts, and a photograph of Ricardo kissing Lucía outside a private apartment six months before her accident.
“You told me she had nowhere to go,” Valeria said. “Yet the company paid rent on her luxury apartment for four years.”
Ricardo’s face turned gray.
Before he could answer, the office door opened. Andrés entered with two internal auditors and the company’s attorney.
“Mr. Salgado,” the attorney said, “your access has been suspended. Hand over your phone, laptop, and security badge.”
Ricardo stared at Valeria.
“You can’t do this to your husband.”
Her voice remained steady.
“I’m not doing this to my husband. I’m investigating an employee suspected of stealing from thousands of people.”
Then Ricardo smiled.
It was a cold, desperate smile.
“You think those transfers lead to me?” he said. “Look at the final authorization. Your name is on every one of them.”
Valeria opened the last page.
Her own signature stared back at her.
Perfectly forged.
And beneath it was a handwritten note proving someone inside the board had helped Ricardo frame her.
What Valeria discovered next would expose why Lucía was really in that wheelchair—and why her accident had never been an accident.
