Woman Dies After Snake Bite While Bathing in River With Lover in Uttar Pradesh
Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district has drawn attention after a woman allegedly died from a snake bite while bathing in a river with a man she was reportedly in a relationship with.
The incident took place in August 2026 and unfolded in a village in the district, where the woman, identified as Pushpa Devi, lived with her 12-year-old son.
According to the account, Pushpa Devi was a widow whose husband had died several years earlier after a prolonged illness. She supported her family by raising around 25 goats and regularly took them to graze near the river.
A New Tenant Becomes Close to Her
After reportedly feeling increasingly lonely, Pushpa Devi began looking for companionship. Earlier, her nephew Ujjwal had stayed at her home for several days to help look after the goats while she was unwell. The two later became close, although the relationship eventually came to the attention of Ujjwal’s father.
The situation changed when Ujjwal’s father reportedly discovered the pair together near the river and took his son away.
Pushpa Devi subsequently remained alone again.
A few weeks later, she reportedly met a young labourer named Vikram, who worked at a nearby factory. After Pushpa offered him a vacant room in her house, Vikram began living there as a tenant.
Over time, the two reportedly became close.
The Fatal Day
On the day of the incident, Pushpa Devi went to the river with her goats as part of her usual routine. She later contacted Vikram and asked him to meet her near the river.
According to the account, the two met at an isolated spot near the river. While they were together, Pushpa reportedly suggested that they bathe in the river because of the intense heat.
Vikram initially hesitated, reportedly warning that someone might see them, but the pair eventually entered the water.
What happened next turned the meeting into a tragedy.
Snake Attack Sparks Panic
While Pushpa was bathing, a snake reportedly entered her clothing. She immediately began screaming in panic.
Hearing her cries, a farmer named Om Prakash Singh arrived at the scene. Believing that the woman might be drowning, he rushed toward the river to help her.
During the rescue attempt, Pushpa was reportedly bitten by the snake again.
Om Prakash and Vikram managed to bring her out of the water and rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Doctors reportedly treated her, but after several hours, Pushpa Devi died.
A Tragic Ending
The incident left Pushpa’s disabled 12-year-old son, Sonu, without his mother.
What began as an ordinary day of taking goats to graze ended in a fatal accident, leaving the local community shocked.
The incident also highlights the dangers of entering isolated rivers and waterways, particularly during the monsoon season when snakes and other potentially dangerous animals may be active.
The tragic death serves as a reminder that caution is essential around rivers and other natural water bodies, even when people are familiar with the area.
