Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is trying to get a luchador mask he was wearing during Super Bowl afterparties back to its rightful owner.

The mask was part of a series of viral videos showing Kelce dancing around at parties in the aftermath of the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.

Per Tylee Taylor of NBC 5 in Dallas-Fort Worth, a family in the Dallas area said the mask belongs to their son, Elijah, and they would like to get it back for him.

Kelce posted on X that “Operation Get Elijah His Mask Back” was underway.

Operation “Get Elijah His Mask Back” is underway! I appreciate everyone bringing this to my attention, and look forward to uniting Elijah with his mask once again. Your mask indeed brings great fortune, I owe you big time, sorry it was commandeered https://t.co/HHazKInFRi

Kelce talked on the New Heights podcast, presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, about finding the mask and how that helped “transform the night” for him.

Smith told Taylor he gave Kelce the mask and he, along with a friend, tried to get it back but it was very crowded and loud around them.

“I gave him my mask and then he dropped it and then picked it back up,” Smith said. “Then I got a picture with him wearing it and then I just hung out next to them for five to ten minutes, they were dancing and everything. … I saw videos on Instagram this week of him wearing it at the next after-party he went to, so he clearly never took it off the whole night.”

Thad Smith, Elijah’s father, explained to Taylor they needed to get the mask back because “it’s a lucky mask, and so the Chiefs need the luck.”

While it can debated about how much luck the Chiefs need after winning back-to-back Super Bowls and three in the past five years, Elijah did say he wore it during the 2023 season when Kansas City played the Arizona Cardinals.

“Last year when I wore it in Arizona, I feel like every single time I put it on we would score a touchdown,” Elijah explained.

Perhaps more important than the luck factor is that the mask contains Trent McDuffie’s autograph from last year’s Super Bowl afterparty.

It sounds like Kelce is not only going to make sure the mask gets back to Elijah but based on saying he owes him “big time,” might throw in some bonus gifts since he has access to a pretty good tight end for the Chiefs.
