After the Las Vegas Aces’ impressive victory over the WNBA’s best team in the Connecticut Sun, A’ja Wilson and Kate Martin were among the players trending on social media. While most of the spotlight fell on Wilson as she had yet another impressive outing, people also noticed a wholesome moment between Martin and a childhood friend.

Not only is AJ Epenesa a childhood friend, but he also a former Iowa Hawkeye, who was drafted to the Buffalo Bills in the 2024 NFL Draft. Moment’s like these are exactly what the WNBA needs to keep thriving. Having players from other professional leagues supporting the WNBA, whether it be for a childhood friend, or just to make it out to the game.

The league is continuing to grow in each game, and it’s not just one team. The Atlanta Dream set a franchise record 17,575 attendees in their matchup with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Though this is largely due to Clark’s influence, each team deserves a lot of credit for continuing the rise in popularity.

The Las Vegas Aces also sold out all of their games this season. Another example of how much the WNBA has grown this year. There should be little doubt that this trend will continue for years to come.
