Travis Kelce Reflects on What Gives Him ‘Reason’ to Play Harder

Travis Kelce is reflecting on what motivates and inspires him ahead of his team’s fourth Super Bowl in five years.

While speaking with reporters during a Feb. 2 press conference, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was asked what it meant to him to have members of his family and his girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, congratulate him on the field at M&T Bank Stadium following his team’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens at last weekend’s AFC Championship game.

“It’s another memory in the journey that we get to cherish,” he said. “I’m fortunate that I got all the support I need off the field and, you know, it gives me a reason to play that much harder on the field, the people you just mentioned.”

Swift joined Travis’ parents, Donna Kelce and Ed Kelce, and brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, in rushing from their shared box down to the field once the Jan. 28 game was called for the Chiefs. NFL broadcasters captured a sweet display of PDA Travis shared with Swift and an emotional moment between the NFL brothers as the group congratulated Travis on making it to another Super Bowl.

The Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers in the final matchup of the NFL season at Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11.

With just over one week to go until the big game, Travis told reporters that it has “been a wild year.”

“It’s an exciting time,” he said during the Chiefs press conference. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime type of thing that I’ve been able to enjoy a few times.”

Before he was asked specifically about his family and Swift, Travis offered another reason that he feels encouraged to play “harder.”

“I’ve been beyond fortunate to land here in Kansas City and be surrounded by the men and women that are in this building,” he said. “It makes you want to play that much harder, and appreciate it that much more, when you get these kinds of opportunities.”
