Louis Rees-Zammit could join the three-peat chasing Super Bowl Champions.
Former Gloucester and Wales winger Louis Rees-Zammit could join the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs who have emerged as contenders for his signature.
Rees-Zammit announced that he was stepping away from rugby to chase his NFL dream before the 2024 Six Nations and has joined the International Player Pathway (IPP) program.
Louis Rees-Zammit to the Chiefs?
The 23-year-old participated in an International Pathways Players Pro Day, and while he admitted that he was unhappy with his performance, he seemed to have caught the eye of the NFL scouts.
He visited the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns last week, but it also looks as if he caught the attention of back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos.
Ian Rapoport, National Insider for NFL Network and NFL.com, reported on Tuesday that Rees-Zammit will be visiting both franchises this week.
“This is a fun one: Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, one of the more high-profile international names in the International Player Pathway Program, is visiting the #Broncos today and the #Chiefs tomorrow, source said. He spent last week with the #Browns and #Jets,” Rapoport wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The Chiefs will be looking to complete a historic three-peat of Super Bowl titles and could add the rapid speedster who played 31 Test matches for Wales to bolster the Patrick Mahomes-led offence.
It is understood that Rees-Zammit is vying to become a running back, wide receiver or returner.
Rapid times
While the Welshman ran an impressive 4.44 seconds for the 40-yard sprint 4.44 seconds for the 40-yard sprint, he was not overly pleased with his performance.
“A bit disappointed in my 40,” he told AP. “Last week, I was getting some really good times. I was getting low 4.3s, high 4.2s. So it is what it is.
“It’s just what happens on the day. But I know I can run that fast.
“I’m not trying to make excuses or anything, but I know what I can do and I’m happy with the day and how the day went.”
