L’Jarius Sneed is set to leave the Kansas City Chiefs after four seasons with the team, with the cornerback having been a key figure in the team’s recent success

Patrick Mahomes made a last-minute plea to keep L’Jarius Sneed on the Kansas City Chiefs team for the next NFL season. However, his teammate was traded just hours later.

The two players had played together at Arrowhead Stadium and had won back-to-back Super Bowl victories in 2022 and 2023. They had formed a strong bond over their four seasons together in Missouri.

But now, Sneed is set to sign a massive £57 million ($76 million) deal with the Tennessee Titans, with £41 million ($55 million) guaranteed. This deal will make him one of the highest-paid players in his position in NFL history. The cornerback is set to earn £14 million ($19 million) over a four-year period.

As he starts this new chapter, his old team will receive a third-round pick for 2025 and a seventh-round pick for 2024. Sneed had become a key part of Andy Reid’s team since being drafted in 2020. It’s clear that some of his teammates, including Mahomes, were hoping he would stay with the Chiefs.

During a chat with Fox4KC, Mahomes opened up about wanting his teammate to stick around in Kansas City for the 2024 campaign. He said: “I don’t have any say in that. I think you’ll hear from everybody on our team that we want Sneed.”

Describing the sort of player and person Sneed is, he added: “The player he is, that person he is. He’s one of those guys that’s hungry every single day,” He also gave a little insight into what Sneed is like, saying: “He’s not going to be the most vocal guy, not always yelling and screaming.”

The Chiefs superstar said more about Sneed. He said: “But the mindset he has and that determination in how he practices, you see it every day. He leads those guys. We want everybody to get their money. So, whatever happens, we’ll be excited for him. But hopefully, that’s with the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Talk of Sneed’s move comes after the two-time Super Bowl winner made a plea to the Chiefs’ general manager, Bret Veach. As free agency approached, he wanted to clinch a new deal with KC. But, he seemed worried that making deals for both him and defensive linemen Chris Jones might be too much.

After the Kansas City Chiefs’ unforgettable Super Bowl win in Las Vegas, the star player spoke on “Up and Adams”, giving a candid update about his future. He admitted: “I’m hoping I’m here, but you know, you never know how it goes. I hope I’m here.”

“You know, I’m just planning on just doing what I do and just play ball and just go wherever I go, and they’ll get my best. I hope so. They can’t keep both of us. I don’t think they’ve got enough for both of us. But you know they’re gonna make it happen, I hope.”
