Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston after Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury
Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark nearly achieved a triple-double during Sunday’s 88-82 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
Despite battling a migraine headache, Clark posted 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds, just one rebound shy of making WNBA history as the first rookie to record a triple-double.

Aliyah Boston praises Caitlin Clark’s performance
After the game, Clark and her teammate Aliyah Boston shared a notable postgame interaction that highlighted their camaraderie and mutual respect.
Boston, who contributed significantly with 17 points and eight rebounds, expressed her admiration for Clark’s performance.
“You had a triple-double, damn near. Triple-double watch. Insanity,”Boston remarked, acknowledging Clark’s near-historic achievement.
Clark, all smiles despite the missed milestone, responded with a light-hearted comment while heading back to the locker room.
“Bruh, I needed a rebound,” she said, reflecting on how close she came to etching her name in the WNBA record books.
Although the historic triple-double eluded her, Clark’s contribution was pivotal in securing the Fever’s first win against a team with a record above .500 this season.
Indiana coach Christie Sides noted Clark’s resilience, especially considering she wasn’t feeling well throughout the game.
“She’s with her trainer right now,” Sides explained post-game, revealing that Clark has been managing migraine headaches, an issue she’s faced throughout her basketball career.
Clark’s game continues to shine under spotlight
Clark’s performance on Sunday marks her second double-double in the last three games, showcasing her growing impact on the court.
The Fever have now won five of their last seven games, indicating a positive trend as the team continues to gel and improve.
Boston and Clark, both top draft picks in consecutive years, have quickly developed into a formidable duo for the Fever.
Their complementary skill sets-Clark’s prowess as a passer and scorer, coupled with Boston’s strength in the paint-have been crucial to the team’s recent success.
Boston has seen her season averages rise, now sitting at 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, thanks in part to Clark’s ability to find her for easy buckets.
Indiana’s strategy of playing Clark off the ball more frequently has also paid dividends.
This adjustment, explained by Coach Sides, aims to give Clark a breather and reduce the pressure on her, allowing her to perform at a high level throughout the game.
“I think it just gives her a breather,”Sides said.
“Gives a different look. It gives her a chance to not be pressured full court.”
As the Fever continue to build on their recent successes, the growing chemistry between Boston and Clark will be a key factor in their long-term development.
Up next for the Fever is a showdown against the back-to-back WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night.
