WNBA 2024 All-Star Game: Did Republic beat writer select Caitlin Clark?
The biggest names in the WNBA will make their way to Phoenix for the All-Star Game on July 20.
This year’s game will feature the Team USA 5-on-5 Olympic roster against a 12-player WNBA roster of players who did not make the Olympic team, so there won’t be a shortage of star power at this event.
The top 10 vote-getters automatically will be named to the All-Star Game, with those players not already on the U.S. Olympic roster assigned to Team WNBA. The 12 WNBA head coaches then will take the names of the next 36 highest vote-getters and fill out the remaining spots on the 12-player All-Star squad.
All-Star voting hinges on several factors, including a fan vote (50%), current WNBA players (25%), and media members (25%). This is my second season voting for the All-Star roster, and yes, I voted for Caitlin Clark to be in the game.
Clark deserves to be there after having a solid start to her WNBA career and is averaging over 16 points and six assists. But several other players here are posting incredible performances this season. Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride averages 3.1 3-pointers per game and is one of the best offensive weapons on the Lynx. Los Angeles Sparks center Dearica Hamby is one of the most well-rounded players and is difficult to face.
Rosters will be announced Tuesday, while starters will be determined by each respective team’s coach. Here is my All-Star ballot.
