What happened to Caitlin Clark at the end of the game against the Chicago Sky?
The Indiana Fever’s four-game winning streak came to a heartbreaking end with Sunday’s 88-87 road defeat to the Chicago Sky.
Despite Clark’s great game, many believe she wasn’t utilized properly in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
Robert Griffin III is one of those people.
Down two points with 53 seconds left in Sunday’s matchup with the Chicago Sky, the Indiana Fever had NaLyssa Smith, Aliyah Boston, and Kristy Wallace getting off last-second shots instead of sharp-shooting Clark.
RG3 couldn’t believe that Clark wasn’t utilized down the stretch. He overlayed a video of him speaking while highlights showed of the game, saying, “They were down by two, then three, then they were down by four, and everybody but Caitlin Clark was taking shots,” Griffin III said in a video posted to X.
“Everybody but Caitlin Clark was getting plays called for them. I don’t care if she’s getting triple-teamed, quadruple-teamed, Caitlin Clark should take the last shot — that is why she is there.
“She is one of the most lethal 3-point shooters on the face of the earth. She was built for moments like that. And it’s coaching malpractice if you don’t get her to take at least one shot with under one minute to go in the game, and if you can’t see that, then you just don’t know ball.”
For the game, Clark netted 17 points and 13 assists.
This day would ultimately belong to the home team. Angel Reese scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Chicago Sky beat Indiana. She would become the first rookie since A’ja Wilson with 25-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in a single game.
Caitlin Clark Sets Franchise Assists Record in Fever Loss to Sky
Caitlin Clark had a spectacular performance against the Chicago Sky, and she even set a record.
Clark set Indiana Fever’s record for assists in a single game as she dished out 13 in the loss to the Sky, which snapped the Fever’s four-game winning streak.
She added 17 points and six rebounds. Clark also matched her career high with four steals and also had five turnovers.
“I trust my teammates,” Clark said via USA Today. “Thirteen assists, that means my teammates scored off 13 of my passes. That’s a really great number. So I’m going to give them the ball every time and give them the opportunity to score.”
