The Mystery of Bir Hooker’s Finger: A Tale of Ancient Relics and Giants

In the spring of 1988, Gregor Spörri, a 33-year-old Swiss businessman, embarked on a journey to Egypt filled with a desire for thrill and intrigue. His quest for adventure led him to explore the depths of the Red Sea in search of sunken treasures and to wander through the intricate passageways of the Great Pyramid of Giza, where he even managed to secure a night next to the revered sarcophagus of Khufu by greasing the palms of guards.

However, despite his relentless pursuit of the extraordinary, disappointment seemed to follow Spörri at every turn until a chance encounter on his penultimate day brought him face to face with a mysterious relic in a remote village called Bir Hooker, located 120 kilometers from Cairo.

It was in Bir Hooker that Spörri crossed paths with Nagib, a member of a family lineage known for their connections to tomb raiders. Nagib unveiled to Spörri an object shrouded in secrecy for generations – a 58-centimeter mummified finger. Bizarre in its human-like appearance yet unnaturally large in size, the finger appeared to defy the laws of nature, resembling something out of ancient myths and legends.

Captivated by the enigmatic relic, later christened as Bir Hooker’s Finger, Spörri paid $300 to capture its likeness through his lens. Nagib revealed that the artifact had been safeguarded within his family for over a century and that only a select few had ever laid eyes on it.

Years later, in 2012, Bild magazine stirred the pot by suggesting that the finger could be evidence of the existence of giants in ancient Egypt. Although scientific consensus refutes such claims, historical accounts by figures like Flavius Josephus hint at the existence of a race of giants renowned for their towering stature and thunderous voices.

For Spörri, the encounter with Bir Hooker’s Finger transcended a mere anecdote; it marked the genesis of a mystery that continues to intrigue and baffle to this day.
