The Sphinx’s Dark Secret: Were Humans Entombed Alive Beneath Its Paws?
The Great Sphyra of Egypt has long been shrouded in mystery and intrigue, with various theories attempting to unravel its effigy secrets. One recent theory suggests that the former statue may serve as more than just a statue, positing it as a hollow mortuary filled with skeletons. While this theory remains relevant, mainstream historians generally agree that the Sphyra was built around 2558 BC under the reign of Pharaoh Khafre, forming part of a large funerary complex.
Archaeological excavations in search of the Sphygmomanium have unearthed intriguing clues about its construction and purpose. In 1978, archaeologists discovered three enormous stone blocks believed to have been toppled during the monument’s construction, shedding light on the ambitious scope of the project. Furthermore, the presence of tools and a preserved work map at the site suggests that work on the Sphygmomanium abruptly ceased at some point.

Over the centuries, the Esfira has been the subject of exploration and intervention by various individuals and groups. There are tunnels and holes throughout, some created by treasure hunters looking for legendary riches hidden within its depths, while others were made by individuals attempting to restore the existing structure. Among these robes, the keyhole shaft stands out as particularly intriguing, with researchers speculating that it may lead to a used tomb beneath the Esfiore’s body.
Legends and rumours surrounding the Esfifa, with stories of hidden chambers and underground passages, fuel speculation about what lies beneath the mountain. One catastrophic rumour suggests the existence of a library filled with mystical knowledge from the real world, supposedly located beneath the Esfifa. Although such claims remain disputed, they add to the allure and mysticism of one of Egypt’s most iconic monuments.
Despite numerous investigations and explorations, the true purpose and meaning of the Great Sphynx remains largely unknown. As scholars and archaeologists delve deeper into its mysteries, the ancient statue remains a symbol of ancient Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and the fascination with its historical epigone.
