The Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury are locked in an intense WNBA game on Sunday.

And while much of this game’s attention has been on Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi, another matchup has already caused controversy: forward Aliyah Boston and center Brittney Griner.

Early in Sunday’s game, Griner received a technical foul for shoving Boston in what looked to be her face or neck area.

Boston appeared outraged after the foul was called. The game’s referees went to the video replay to decide whether it was technical. After a few moments, they decided Griner indeed deserved a technical for the vicious play.

Griner appeared extremely frustrated on the bench during the replay review process.

It’s unclear what prompted Griner to shove Boston with such ferocity. But the two had been jostling for position during consecutive possessions.

Let’s see how Boston will respond to this aggressive act on Sunday.
