Caitlin Clark is a superstar before every actually playing a regular-season WNBA game, even as she and the Indiana Fever are trying to take this thing step by step.

But she played her first WNBA game on Friday night, and the rookie appeared more than ready, as she ended her debut preseason game – a loss at the Dallas Wings – with 21 points, tying for the lead among all scorers in the game.

And after the outing, she shared a social message with her growing fan base.

“The fans are always … what makes women’s basketball so fun,” she said.

Clark was good from the perimeter, as expected, but was probably disappointed in her five turnovers. These two teams will play one additional preseason game before beginning the regular season later this month. … and Clark is saying all the right things to make sure eyeballs follow along.

“For (the fans) to come out to support during my first WNBA game is really special, not only for myself but for both teams on the court,” said the Iowa phenom, “They get to see how good this product is, and you couldn’t ask for a better game.”
