Iowa women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark made NCAA history on Thursday night by breaking the all-time scoring record in front of the home crowd.
Clark’s family was in the house to watch the big moment, and their reaction to the 3-point shot that set the record was so wholesome and great to watch.
This was one of the coolest moments in recent basketball, as Clark has established herself as one of the best college hoops players ever.
Having her family in the building for her to put her name in the record books had to have made the moment even more special than it already was.
If you’re a college basketball fan, you’ve probably been looking forward to watching Clark break the record for some time.
Watching her family celebrating the moment just underscores how neat this really is. It’s already a contender for one of the best moments of the year for sports.
In addition to breaking the all-time NCAA women’s scoring record, Clark set her own career high in scoring with 49 points—the most ever by an Iowa player—and added 13 assists while draining nine threes.
After the game, Clark had a message for her fans, encouraging them to keep on dreaming.
“Never stop dreaming because you can achieve way more than you ever thought, and I get to live that every single day. And I still keep dreaming, and I’m 22 years old, so never stop,” said Clark.
Fans at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena gave her a standing ovation after the win, and they encouraged her to reconsider departing for the WNBA after her senior season, chanting in unison, “one more year!”
With the all-time record officially under her belt, Clark made clear that there’s still plenty more to achieve. In a postgame speech, the 22-year-old told fans that the Hawkeyes have “a lot more winning to do.”
Clark and Iowa take the court next in one week, on Thursday, Feb. 22, against Illinois, when she’ll begin to add to her historic scoring tally.
