Another college basketball star has declared for the WNBA draft, shaking up the landscape before the NCAA tournament.
On Tuesday, Stanford forward Cameron Brink shared the news that this is her last year with the Cardinal.
In a heartfelt post on social media, the 6-4 senior expressed her gratitude for her college years, highlighting her journey from winning the 2021 national championship as a freshman to her outstanding performance this season.
Brink’s announcement follows Stanford’s loss to USC in the final Pac-12 tournament championship game, where she led the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
“My four years at Stanford have been nothing short of life-changing,” Brink said. “I cannot begin to express my love for everyone I’ve met and everything I’ve learned in Palo Alto. … I am excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2024 WNBA Draft.”
Despite her WNBA aspirations, Brink remains focused on Stanford’s upcoming NCAA tournament campaign.
Head coach Tara VanDerveer praised Brink’s contributions, stating, “She’ll go down as one of the best in program history.”
Brink’s accolades include being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and earning her third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year title.
Brink’s decision to forego a fifth year with Stanford amid the pandemic aligns with fellow standout Caitlin Clark’s choice to enter the draft.
Brink is widely projected to be a top pick, with some speculating she could go second overall to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, Brink’s godbrother, congratulated her on social media, highlighting her achievements and potential in the WNBA.
“Hey Cam, just want to say congratulations. Huge huge announcement, huge milestone, huge accomplishment. Prepare youself for the WNBA draft.
But I know you still got some unfinished business in the NCAA tournament, but take a moment to pat yourself on the back for a job well done to get to this point. The best is yet to come. I can’t wait to see where your career takes you. WNBA listen. League her!” Curry said.
Brink and Stanford will find out their placement in the NCAA Tournament next Sunday, March 17, during a live broadcast on ESPN.
