On Monday night, the New York Knicks claimed victory in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers.

The game featured some controversial calls down the stretch, including an illegal screen called on Myles Turner that ultimately handed the game over to the Knicks.

Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo embellished the contact enough to draw an offensive foul at a crucial juncture of the game.

Many fans noted similarities to the illegal screen call drawn by Iowa star Gabbie Marshall during the Hawkeyes’ Final Four win over the UConn Huskies.

“Knicks should be cutting Gabbie Marshall a check. Her spirit was in that call tonight,” one wrote.

“LOL ITS THE GABBIE MARSHALL UCONN CALL,” another said.

“Donte giving the Pacers the Gabbie Marshall bizz,” another added.

“DiVincenzo must’ve been watching Gabbie Marshall against Aaliyah Edwards in the Iowa-UConn game,” another wrote.

Like Monday night’s call on Turner, the illegal screen drawn by Marshall sparked controversy around the sporting world.

“I played my butt off the whole game trying to get over those screens. They set a whole bunch of screens,” Marshall said after Iowa’s Final Four win. “You have to allow the play to get around it, you cannot be moving. In my opinion, I thought it was an illegal screen.

Iowa's Gabbie Marshall received hate comments after controversial foul vs. UConn

“But at the end of the day, it’s our job as players to play the games. It’s the refs’ job to make the call. Whether it’s for us or against us, it’s out of our control.”

The Pacers and Knicks will face off again in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
