From starting one game during her freshman season to starting all in her fifth year, Gabbie Marshall’s journey has been remarkable. The 23-year-old arrived at the University of Iowa in 2019 as a health and human physiology major after graduating from Cincinnati’s Mount Notre Dame High School.
Along the way, she became a trailblazer for Iowa women’s basketball, achieving the rare feat of recording 200 3-pointers and 200 steals in her career.
Moreover, Marshall’s contributions were instrumental in propelling the Hawkeyes to their first-ever national title game appearance last season. The former three-star recruit is looking to repeat a similar feat this year!
With March Madness in full swing, Marshall has been a crucial player in Iowa’s journey to the Sweet 16 for the second time in a row, with impressive wins over No. 16 seed Holy Cross and No. 8 seed West Virginia.
In the postseason, the 23-year-old is averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals across two games. Moreover, she has started in all 34 games this season, averaging 5.9 points, 1 rebound, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Marshall has been a standout player in the competitive Big Ten Conference, earning acclaim for her impressive skills on the court. She was named to the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team twice, in 2021 and 2022.
During the 2021-22 season, she led the Hawkeyes in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game. Moreover, the former three-star recruit has played a record 162 games, amassing more than 1000 career points in the process.
Her contributions have been instrumental in the team’s success, helping the Hawkeyes reach the 2023 Finals for the first time.
However, she will conclude her NCAA career at the end of the 2024 season. Marshall gained an extra year of eligibility after the NCAA offered players a one-year waiver due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She used it this season and plans to pursue a master’s in occupation therapy in the future. However, can Gabbie Marshall win a championship before bowing out?
Can the Iowa Hawkeyes win the 2024 NCAA Championship?
After failing to secure the Championship last season after an 85-102 loss to the third-seeded LSU in the finals, the Iowa Hawkeyes are looking for redemption this season.
The Hawkeyes are hot favorites this season, given their ability to score a win and the presence of three-point queen Caitlin Clark. After securing a Sweet Sixteen spot, they are now just four wins away from the NCAA championship that has eluded them for so long.
However, while they are in a great position to make the Final Four, they will likely be paired up with the top seed in the Portland 3 Region, the USC Trojans.
Even if they outplay the Trojans, they will then need to overcome the South Carolina Gamecocks en route to the 2024 championship. Can the Hawkeyes rise to the occasion and claim the ultimate victory? Let us know in the comments!
