Patrick Mahomes Dropped Clever One-Liner While Admiring Caitlin Clark’s Talent

Game respects game.

During media availability leading up to Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about Iowa phenom Caitlin Clark, who is just 66 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball.

“Hopefully I never have to play her one-on-one, because she’ll for sure be getting buckets on me,” Mahomes said Tuesday.

Mahomes also went on to praise the 22-year-old guard for her talents on the court.

“Tremendous player, tremendous person,” Mahomes said. “I’ve met with her and talked. You can tell she loves the game and she loves playing at Iowa.

“She’s going to be one of the best college basketball players to ever play, and then go to the WNBA and dominate there as well.”

Clark and the No. 2-ranked Hawkeyes battle Penn State on Thursday and Nebraska on Sunday.

To break the all-time scoring record—currently held by Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum—on Super Bowl Sunday, Clark needs to average 33 points over her next two games. It’s certainly possible, as Clark has scored over 33 points in 11 of 23 contests this season.

The game against Nebraska tips off at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. Mahomes said he probably won’t be able to watch due to a certain big game he’s preparing for, but he’ll be cheering from afar.
