There are always midseason moves that happen for every team in every major sports league. So it was nothing out of the ordinary to see the Chicago Sky make a move on Friday to trim the roster a bit. But the front office surely didn’t expect the backlash they got for the transaction.
The team waived Kysre Gondrezick midway through her first season with the team. Gondrezick had only played 16 minutes across 16 games for the Sky up until this point. From a basketball perspective, the move makes sense: Gondrezick hasn’t made an impact to this point in her WNBA career despite being the 4th overall pick by the Indiana Fever in 2021.

While Gondrezick deals with the tough news, she at least has a high-profile boyfriend to fall back on at the moment. She has been rumored to be dating Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown for a little while, and she was seen with him during the Celtics’ championship parade last week.
We’ll see if Gondrezick gets picked up by another team, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is the end of her WNBA career, given that she was out of the league for the past two years before 2024.
