EXCLUSIVE: WNBA star Brittney Griner tearfully insists her month-long marriage was ‘a huge tragedy’ that she felt was pressured by her pregnant wife
WNBA’s Brittney Griner Says She Was ‘Pressured’ Into Marrying Glory Johnson: It Was a ‘Huge Mistake’
Glory Johnson and Brittney Griner’s rocky relationship is only getting rougher. After 28 days of marriage, WNBA player Griner filed for annulment from her wife, Johnson.
Last week, the judge in the case denied the request, and on Friday, Johnson took to social media to post what appeared to be pointed messages at her soon-to-be ex-wife.

Johnson, 25, shared a photo on Instagram of the quote, “Lying is done with words and also with silence,” and explained why she posted it in the caption. “It’s not right to proclaim to The World that someone cheated on you, without having Legitimate Proof,” she wrote. “I’m not that type of Person, never have been, never will be.” On Saturday morning, the former Tulsa Shock forward posted a follow-up Instagram of a bible passage. “Yesterday was really tough for me…” she wrote. “I don’t like to defend myself but I did and this was my morning devotion.” That same day, Johnson told People that she was “thankful the annulment was rejected because an act of marriage did occur.” “Together we made life changing decisions which impacted our lives collectively, and we both should be held responsible for those decisions,” she said in a statement to the magazine. Those life changing decisions include children — Johnson is currently carrying the ex-couple’s twins and has taken a year off from the WNBA due to the pregnancy. She made the announcement about her pregnancy in June, and Griner announced that the couple was ending their marriage the next day.
NEWS: Brittney Griner Shares Annulment News the Day After Wife Announces Pregnancy
At the time of the annulment filing, Griner, 24, confessed to People that she had attempted to cancel the wedding a few times before the ceremony and realized after her nuptials that she had made “a mistake.” Much of the turbulence in the relationship seems to revolve around accusations that Johnson kept up sexual relationships with a boyfriend outside of the relationship, and these betrayals may have led to the physical altercation between the two basketball stars back in May, six weeks before their wedding. These two star athletes weren’t the only ones who were nervous about their wedding day. Check out the video below to see which celebs never even made it down the aisle.
WNBA star Brittney Griner is clearly still emotional about her embattled one-month marriage to fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson. Just 28 days after their wedding, Brittney filed an annulment from Glory — just one day after Glory announced she was pregnant.
“Prior to us getting married, I knew I shouldn’t have went through with it,” Brittney, 24, now tells ESPN in a candid new interview about their rocky relationship. “Sometimes you feel pressured into things and I went along with it. I just knew it was a mistake.”

She also calls the couple’s April arrest in Goodyear, Arizona, “mutual combat.” According to People, Brittney had injuries to her wrist and fingers from the incident — including what she described as a “tooth mark” on her hand — and Glory, 24, suffered lacerations to her right lip.
“It was mutual — they called it mutual combat, that’s what it is,” Brittney comments.
Her advice to others in a similar situation? “Walk away,” she says. “No matter what it is, walk away. It never ends good. Domestic violence is never OK no matter what the situation is.”
The Phoenix Mercury star broke down in tears at one point, when asked to describe the last 10 months.
“Emotional,” she sobbed.
Glory has yet to publicly comment on the two’s highly publicized split, but her rep told TMZ last week that she still “loves Brittney.”
“Glory loves Brittney and made a huge sacrifice to carry a child, put her career on hold, to invest in their relationship and their future,” her rep, D.J. Fisher, said. “As a result she won’t be playing this season.”
For her part, Brittney calls the pregnancy news a “surprise.” “It’s very early,” she says. “It’s too early to post or say anything about it. I was surprised.”
But the basketball players are hardly the only ones who were nervous about their wedding day prior to walking down the aisle. Check out the video below to see which celebs actually never made it to the alter:
