KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Gray News) – Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are responding to reports about a shooting following the Super Bowl championship parade.

“Praying for Kansas City…” Mahomes wrote on X, followed by three prayer hand emojis.

An official statement from the Chiefs was posted on X Wednesday evening.

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” the statement reads. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.”

The team also said it is in contact with authorities and confirmed all of its players, coaches, staff and their families were not harmed.

Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling used the social media platform in an attempt to offer assistance to the victims:

“Any chance anyone can help me get in touch with these kids or families? First off I want to make sure they’re doing ok. But would love to help them out any way I can and get them some stuff from the team to help with the recovery.”

Several other Chiefs players made statements on their personal X accounts, asking for prayers for the victims:

Travis Kelce, tight end:

“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”

Drue Tranquill, linebacker:

“Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”

Justin Reid, safety:

“Praying for everyone in Kansas City at the parade.”

Trey Smith, guard:

“My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by today’s incidents—a huge thank you to the first responders who ran towards the sound of danger. You’re the ones who should be celebrated today.”

Donovan Smith, offensive tackle:

“Praying for everyone today in Kansas City.”

Khalen Saunders, defensive tackle:

“Praying for KC. Praying for the ones affected and their families.”

Rick Burkholder, athletic trainer:

“My wife and I along with Coach Reid and his family are safe and on a bus headed to Arrowhead. Thank you to @kcpolice and others.”

Kansas City police reported shots were fired near the garage at Union Station and several people were struck.

Police confirmed at least one person is dead and more than 20 are injured with gunshot wounds, including at least eight children.

Three people have been taken into custody and are under investigation, according to Kansas City police.

This story is still developing.
