Patrick Mahomes’ Soccer Connection Puts Him Above Tom Brady
When he is not smashing it on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL icon Patrick Mahomes is busy with his project at KC Current. In January 2023, the quarterback became the first NFL player with ownership stakes in the NWSL. As such, the star often pops up at KC Current matches and his passionate displays have won over a lot of admirers. The 28-year-old even made a hefty promise of bringing Karma singer Taylor Swift to attend one of the Current games! Hence, Colorado Rapids star Jonathan Lewis reckons that Mahomes’ NWSL connection makes him a better invitee to a soccer match than NFL titan Tom Brady.
In an interview with Goal, the MLS winger was asked whom he would see pull up to a game of soccer. As such, he was given two names in each round. One such choice was between Patrick Mahomes and legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Lewis was quick to name the KC Chiefs star and gave his reasoning as well. He explained, “Patrick Mahomes is a soccer fan too. He goes to the K.C. games.” Interestingly, Mahomes’ soccer connection is not limited to the NWSL side.
Patrick Mahomes’ partner, Brittany was a professional soccer player at one time! She played as an attacker for the NCAA club Texas-Tyler Patriots and then Iceland-based side UMF Afturelding. Moreover, after hanging up her boots, she got ownership rights for KC Current in 2020, 3 years before the NFL star stepped into the venture.
Furthermore, there has been speculation that Patrick Mahomes is a Liverpool fan after posing alongside Jurgen Klopp. Hence, it’s evident that he has connections with the soccer world. But, the same case can be made for Tom Brady.
Just like Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady too has ownership stakes in a soccer club
8 months after Patrick Mahomes joined KC Current’s ownership group, Tom Brady stepped into the soccer world as he became a minority owner in Birmingham City. The club is not having the best of seasons in the Championship and is 21st in the table. However, that hasn’t dwindled the 46-year-old’s optimism as he continues to work with the upper management in transfers and other activities. Brady’s vision for the club is a long-term one as he wants to secure Premier League promotion.
As a result, just like Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady has also attended his fair share of matches. In December, he attended Birmingham’s draw against Rotherdam. Just a day later, he was at the Etihad to watch Manchester City vs Tottenham. Brady has been spotted attending soccer matches long before his Birmingham investment.
In March 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning hattrick to help beat Tottenham. After scoring his third goal, the cameras zoomed in on the crowd, and the NFL icon was spotted applauding CR7. Hence, there is a claim that it is not Patrick Mahomes, but Tom Brady who is more keen on soccer.
