Rashee Rice, a receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, handed himself into police on Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued for him in relation to his involvement in a high-speed collision that occurred in Dallas last month.
According to reports, the 23-year-old went into the Glenn Heights Police Department’s custody. His $5,000 bail was part of a $40,000 total surety bond. The Kansas City Star acquired online documents stating he promptly posted bond and was freed.
Before his release, Rashee Rice would have to take his mugshot like anybody arrested for a crime. That mugshot has since been released.
“Mr. Rice acknowledges his actions and feels deeply for those injured as a result of this accident,” Rice’s attorney Royce West told CNN in a statement.
Dallas investigators had issued an arrest warrant for Rashee Rice as well as another man after a Corvette and a Lamborghini crashed on the North Central Expressway in Dallas on March 31st. Witnesses, as well as video, not only showed the accident but also showed the occupants leaving the scene of the crime.
Rice – who helped his team win the Super Bowl in February against the 49ers – and a 21-year-old man, SMU cornerback Teddy Knox, will each face one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury, according to Dallas police.

His aggravated assault charge is a second-degree felony, while a collision involving serious bodily injury is a third-degree felony.

Rashee Rice was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft and had a standout rookie year as he racked up 79 catches for 938 yards and a team-high of seven touchdowns.
Now, his career is at a standstill after he was involved in a high-speed race that triggered a six-vehicle crash.
In addition to criminal charges, Rice likely faces liability from the other drivers in civil court and a possible punishment from the NFL that could lead to a suspension.
Now, he faces an uncertain future in more than just football.
