The Kansas City Chiefs Seem To Be Unstoppable

TRADE NEWS: Kansas City Chiefs Secure Former All-Pro and Super Bowl 52 Champion QB as Backup for Patrick Mahomes in Intriguing Free Agency Move - Football BlogKansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid takes the field in the first quarter of the AFC championship NFL game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Chiefs led 13-6 at halftime.
Following another triumphant season culminating in yet another Super Bowl victory, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to fortify their already formidable roster across all facets of the game.

With one of the league’s most potent offensive lines and a consistently top-tier defense masterminded by general manager Brett Veach and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs appear to have everything in place for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, save for a true number one receiver following the departure of Tyreek Hill.

Despite the recent departure of standout cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, the Chiefs maintain a roster of championship caliber. Moreover, they are now actively seeking to bolster backup positions with players who once boasted exceptional promise, as noted by Jordan Schultz.

What Does Carson Wentz Bring To The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are clearly not in search of a future replacement for their superstar, Patrick Mahomes. However, despite boasting a strong defense and consistently solid offensive line, the team’s success remains heavily reliant on Mahomes’ performance and availability.

For certain teams, such as the San Francisco 49ers, quarterbacks with lower ceilings but impressive skills, like Brock Purdy and Jimmy Garoppolo, can thrive as “game manager+” types. This formula has led the 49ers to two Super Bowl appearances in the last five years under the guidance of coach Kyle Shanahan.

However, without elite receiving targets and a less scheme-dependent offense, even with the undeniable genius of head coach Andy Reid, a quarterback with a modest ceiling could derail the Chiefs’ season if Mahomes were to miss significant time.

Enter Carson Wentz, who has shown both the ability to deliver remarkable performances and some disappointing outings. Despite this variability, Wentz had an MVP-caliber season in 2017, leading the Philadelphia Eagles—eventually guided by Nick Foles—to victory in Super Bowl LII.

Considering Wentz’s potential and the stability of a franchise with excellent coaching and strategic play calling, coupled with the pressure being lifted off his shoulders as a backup, Wentz could find success and play a crucial role in the Chiefs’ future triumphs, should the need arise—a situation the Chiefs undoubtedly hope to avoid.
