USC Football: Draft Expert Tackles Caleb Williams-Patrick Mahomes Comparison
The entire world is waiting to see where USC Trojans QB Caleb Williams lands. The likelihood of him ending up as the starting QB for the Chicago Bears is strong, and the hope is he can elevate the franchise to greatness.
Many have commented on how Williams can be the next big thing in football, with pundits like Colin Cowherd calling comparing him to LeBron James. Other comparisons include lumping him in with Patrick Mahomes, who just won his third Super Bowl ring.
Long-time football analyst Daniel Jeremiah tackled this debate and stated that it’s a bit silly to compare the two.
“You don’t want to compare somebody to the best player on the planet, but just in terms of how (Williams) kind of plays, with the creativity and a little flair and all the different throws he can make in terms of driving the ball, layering the ball, extending plays, all those things, there are similarities there. (Mahomes) needed some time to clean things up and got a chance to sit for a year (in Kansas City). Obviously, I don’t think Caleb is going to be afforded the same luxury in that department. But I think you can put a plan in place where you put more on his plate the longer that he goes.”

Jeremiah does indicate that Williams has the talent to be great, but comparing him to Mahomes is a bit ridiculous. Mahomes took some time to get ready and has evolved into the best QB in the league.
There is no telling how Williams will respond in the NFL. He has a special talent on the surface, but the pros are a far different game.
