MLS Sent Strong Message to Serena Williams

Major League Soccer (MLS) sent a strong message to tennis legend Serena Williams after her recent appearance at the Inter Miami CF season opener against New York City FC.

Williams, who attended the match with her daughter, Olympia, shared photos of the experience on Instagram, sparking an interesting response from MLS itself.

Williams was among several celebrities at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for Inter Miami’s first game of the 2025 season.

As a longtime supporter of sports beyond tennis, Williams and her daughter received personalized Inter Miami jerseys and were warmly welcomed by franchise co-owner David Beckham.

Following the match, Williams posted a series of pictures on Instagram, including one where she and Beckham shared a humorous moment, both placing their hands on their backsides.

“Why do athletes do the same thing?” she captioned the post. “Oh yeah and about last night.”Beckham quickly responded in the comments, thanking Williams for attending the game.

MLS also took notice of her post and responded with a short but powerful message: “watching another,” surrounded by goat emojis— a clear nod to her legendary status as one of the greatest athletes of all time.

This subtle yet powerful reply acknowledged Williams’ legendary status and drew a connection between her and another all-time great—Lionel Messi. The match itself ended in a 2-2 draw, with Messi assisting both of Inter Miami’s goals, once again proving his influence on the pitch.

Just days before attending the MLS game, she stunned the crowd at Super Bowl LIX with an unexpected appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance. Dressed in a striking blue tennis skirt, Williams showcased her dance moves, paying homage to her Los Angeles roots with the Crip Walk. The moment was reminiscent of her 2012 Olympic gold medal celebration, where she danced after defeating Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.

Williams’ crossover appeal in sports and entertainment continues to shine, and MLS made it clear that they recognize and celebrate her greatness—both on and off the court.
